Canfield is a wealthy suburb of Youngstown, Ohio with strict zoning regulations prohibiting government housing, large signage, overgrown lawns, and above-ground pools. The tree-lined "Green" sits at the heart of the quaint New England-style village. Here many community activities take place. In 1992, Canfield City residents, although surrounded completely by Canfield Township, voted to secede from the Township. This motion created two separate governmental entities. One being a municipal form and the other a township form. However this did not destroy the community spirit that exists between both the City and Township. Both cooperate with each other for the mutual benefit of their particular constituents.
