El Dorado Hills is a census-designated place located in El Dorado County, California. As of the 2000 census, the CDP had a total population of 18,016. Rapid development in recent years has made it the county's largest community, although it is still unincorporated. Population estimates from various government agencies for early 2006 range from about 33,000 to 40,000, depending mainly on each agency's choice of boundaries to define El Dorado Hills.
El Dorado Hills is located in the Sierra Nevada foothills at the border between El Dorado County and Sacramento County, at 38°41'18" North, 121°4'42" West (38.688223, -121.078461). The northwest portion of El Dorado Hills borders Folsom Lake,with the developed area extending about 8 miles to the south.
