Hermosa Beach is a city in Los Angeles County, California, United States. The population was 18,566 at the 2000 census. The city is located in the South Bay region of the greater Los Angeles area and is one of the three Beach Cities. The median income for a household in the city was $81,153, and the median income for a family was $104,645. Males had a median income of $67,407 versus $50,295 for females. The per capita income for the city was $54,244. About 1.7% of families and 4.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 3.1% of those under age 18 and 3.0% of those age 65 or over. Hermosa Beach is an important center for American beach volleyball competitions. In the Spanish language, the word "hermosa" is the feminine form of beautiful.Segments of the television show The O.C. are actually filmed in Hermosa Beach, not Newport Beach.
