Taylorville is a city in Christian County, Illinois, United States. The population was 11,427 at the 2000 census. There were 4,856 households with the average household size being 2.28 and the average family size 2.89. It is the county seat and largest city in Christian County. The town newspaper is the Breeze-Courier, which is the only daily paper serving Christian County. Also, The State Journal-Register, published in Springfield, Illinois covers Taylorville and Christian County quite extensively. The Decatur, Illinois Herald & Review covers the area as well. Taylorville, being a farming community, has several small claims in the agricultural area. The most prominent claim is the locally known sheep population claim. With nearly 13,000 sheep in the city area, there are more sheep than there are people. Every October, the Taylorville Chamber of Commerce hosts a "Chilifest" bringing in local chefs from around Christian County. -- Source: Wikipedia.com
