There were 1,288 housing units at an average density of 645.8/km² (1,682.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the city was 96.72% White, 1.60% African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.28% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.59% from other races, and 0.70% from two or more races. 1.15% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race. There were 1,237 households out of which 27.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 49.9% were married couples living together, 8.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.9% were non-families. 31.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.
