Smyrna's population was 26,614 people at the 2000 census.Smyrna is the location of a very large manufacturing facility for the Japanese automobile manufacturer Nissan, and has been since 1982. For many years, this facility was regarded as arguably the largest and most productive of its type in the world.Many of the businesses in Smyrna are related to manufacturing.
