Hayward is a city in Sawyer County, Wisconsin, along the Namekagon River. The population was 2,129 at the 2000 census. The city is surrounded by the Town of Hayward. It is home to North Star Camp for Boys.
Hayward is a popular fishing destination due to the many lakes in the area (including Lac Courte Oreilles, Grindstone, Windigo, and Round Lakes), which are known for yielding trophy-sized muskellunge ("muskie"), northern pike, walleye, and smallmouth bass. It is also home to the "Quiet Lakes" (Teal, Ghost and Lost Land Lakes) which are strictly fishing resorts- they do not allow water sports as does Round Lake. Hayward is home to the National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame contained within the 200-foot-long tribute to the Muskie. One can climb up into the mouth of the fish and look over the town, as well as Lake Hayward (during the Christmas season, Santa Claus can often be found peering over the town from the muskie's mouth). -- Source: Wikipedia.com
